Bob Shields MVO

Bob had an extensive aviation career in the Royal Air Force, which included being part of The Queen’s Flight. His exceptional attention to detail and high standards were acknowledged by the award of the MVO (Member of The Royal Victorian Order) in 1993.

Throughout his world-wide RAF career, Bob was renowned for his leadership skills and his professional and moral courage.

Bob has formed an extensive working partnership with Hilary at Ascensys Training since 2002, where he has run workshops on Time Management and Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles in the healthcare environment.

Bob’s expertise as an interview panel chairman have been much in demand, with both clients and delegates appreciating his attention to the finer points of interview technique.

Hilary Shields JP

Hilary was a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Air Force and this taught her leadership, moral courage and understanding in many different and significant ways. She has further developed her insight and experience from 16 years of working subsequently in the pharmaceutical industry and a variety of roles within the NHS. Hilary is in particular demand for her trouble shooting skills.

Since 2002, she has worked with over 3000 delegates to give them the skills they need to succeed. Hilary is a qualified practitioner in:

 Transactional Analysis

 Belbin Team Roles.

She is also ABPI qualified, so understands the ethical requirements of training delivery.

Hilary is also a Justice of the Peace, and in her role as a Magistrate she facilitates groups of challenging individuals with very different views and opinions. She has a huge amount of varied experience to share with clients and delegates, with a focus on practical outcomes.

Hilary Shields JP

Hilary’s early career was in the Royal Air Force where she was commissioned as an Officer in the Personnel Branch. These early leadership skills, earned in some very testing situations, have been an excellent base for the career roles that followed.

With over 23 years of experience of the NHS and the Pharmaceutical Industry, Hilary has developed and delivered training to a wide variety of organisations and individuals within the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry. She is ABPI qualified, so understands the ethical requirements of the NHS and training delivery. This training builds excellent partnerships that will benefit clients and their customers.

Hilary has also written a series of leadership articles for the Journal of Pharmacy Management.

In July 2005, Hilary was appointed a Justice of the Peace for England and Wales and now sits as a Presiding Justice in the adult courts. This is an entirely voluntary role which is undertaken in addition to her training work.

Ascensys Ltd delivered, pro bono, CV and Interview Skills training to groups of local sixth formers. The feedback received from Mrs Penny Walkinshaw (Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire) was:

Richard Berry JP

Richard is our Technical Director and develops our online capabilities. He is a highly skilled data analyst who designs and builds bespoke questionnaires and surveys, for our clients. Richard has more than 25 years’ experience of building tailored data bases for clients that want to maximise their time, effort and profit.   

He wants to create data solutions that really help people – whether that’s building a new website, creating processes that simplify outcomes or developing user friendly materials for workshops.

Richard is a Justice of the Peace and this volunteer role means that he is quick to understand both sides of an argument. 

Ted Yeoman – BSc

Ted has a diverse background; he served as an RAF Officer, later moving into the Pharmaceutical Industry undertaking specialist sales roles in wound care and nutrition, along with training. His experience in developing environments for change and change management led him into Public Health as a Change Manager, including roles as a Governance and Training Lead.

After a major reorganisation in the structure of Public Health, Ted continued to work, in partnership with the NHS and other healthcare providers, as a Contractor. In the main, he was delivering Change Management, Project Management and Training to support various service improvement, clinical and IT projects.

Imogen Gray – BSc (Hons)

Imogen is a passionate and qualified Public Health Nutritionist, with a First Class Honours Degree in Public Health Nutrition. She is a multi-skilled public health professional with a broad knowledge around health improvement and behaviour change; she has particular expertise in weight management, the behaviour changes involved and in workplace health and wellbeing.

Imogen has also developed and delivered nationwide training workshops in her specialist nutrition advice role and on the topic of Mental Health, working on a 1:1 basis, delivering Disability Confident training with line managers on mental health and on-line well-being training for healthcare professionals.

She currently works as a Senior Public Health Manager – Nutrition and Lifestyles, leading on the strategy and commissioning of public health in relation to nutrition and lifestyles across two local authorities, with a particular focus on obesity.

Val Shaw – BPharm (Sp Hons)

Pharmacist Consultant

Val is a pharmacist and worked for 38 years in the NHS; almost 30 years of this was in leadership and management roles at a senior level, with small to large teams, across professions and within different organisations. She is now an Independent Consultant, using her skills to mentor, advise, facilitate, train and review services. 

Her extensive experience includes posts as a Chief Pharmacist in Acute and Mental Health Trusts, a Director role with the Specialist Pharmacy Services in Community Health and in Primary Care. Having a portfolio career across many sectors of pharmacy practice has provided her with a good understanding of how the profession is interlinked and how to use her competencies to their greatest benefit. She believes the skills of everyone should be respected and fully utilised to create a high performing team.

Val mentors several pharmacists on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Mentoring Scheme, returning something back to the profession and helping others realise their strengths and career ambitions.

Eleanor Lawrance

A highly motivated and driven Learning & Development Consultant, Coach, Motivational Maps® Licensed Practitioner and Mental Health First Aider. Eleanor has over 24 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry working across a variety of Sales, Marketing and L&D Roles. She has a wealth of experience managing sales and training teams (7.5 years as an award-winning Sales/Senior Sales Manager), developing training solutions to support business strategy and working with a wide variety of professionals within both the Pharmaceutical Industry and the NHS.

Eleanor is passionate about developing people, coaching, designing fun and practical training solutions (including interactive fun virtual workshops) and reigniting the passion within people to become the best that they can possibly be.

Stephen Reyes

Stephen is a Barrister by profession and has worked in Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service for 20 years. Since 2002 he has worked as a professional trainer, designing programmes and delivering learning events for the Magistracy and legal professionals. He specialises in communication and decision-making skills for those who operate in the public arena.

He is an enthusiastic and imaginative workshop facilitator whose aim is to ensure everyone feels confident to speak and take an active part in the event. Stephen’s wife is a Specialist Nurse in the NHS, so he has a good insight into the everyday communication challenges that patients and MDTs face.
